❄️ Frozen Paint Popsicles – Cool Colour Magic!

❄️ Frozen Paint Popsicles – Cool Colour Magic!

There’s something so satisfying about watching colours swirl and melt together and this activity is pure magic for little ones. Frozen Paint Popsicles are one of my favourite creative play ideas because they bring together art, science, and sensory play in the most beautiful, hands-on way.

perfect for a hot sunny day, the excitement on little faces as the ice starts to melt is priceless. You can paint with them, mix colours, and even turn them into there own magical creations! It’s an easy, low-prep activity that turns everyday items into a magical creative experience. (can even prep it in the freezer to bring out on a hot day)

🌈 You’ll Need

  • Ice cube tray or silicone moulds
  • Water
  • Food colouring
  • Popsicle sticks (or craft sticks)
  • Paper or card stock

Let’s Make Them

  1. Mix water with a few drops of food colouring (I like to do a variety of colours)

  2. Pour into your tray and pop in a stick for each colour.

  3. Freeze overnight or until solid.

  4. Once frozen, take them out and paint away! As the ice melts, your colours swirl and blend across the paper.

🪄 Potion Play Twist

Turn your popsicles into Frozen Potion Wands!

  • Add a bit of Flower Confetti to your ice cube tray before freezing.
  • Fill your bowls, with warm water and let your child melt a popsicle into it to “release the magic.”
  • Watch the water change colour and flowers mix in and name your potions: Mermaid Blue, Fairy Pink, or Dragon Fire Red!
  • Add a sprinkle of glitter, salt rocks, or your favorite crystal for extra sparkle and sensory fun.

It’s the perfect mix of creative art, science, and potion play and such a lovely way to explore colour, temperature, and texture together.

❤️ Why We Love It

This activity encourages open-ended play, colour recognition, and imagination while giving kids the freedom to explore and create. It’s a little bit messy, a lot of fun, and completely magical.
